Sunol Wilderness was the perfect spot for Janice and Kevin’s engagement session. Janice lives in Fremont and Kevin comes in from SF most weekends to hang out with her, so it was fun to explore an area with them that wasn’t too far from home! I’ve been to Sunol Wilderness for an engagement session before, but even in the same place, every session is unique because every love story is different! These two were also super down to explore new sections of the preserve with me and trusted in my vision, which warms my photographer heart :)

Michael was early to our designated meeting spot for the first look. I asked him if he was nervous, and he grinned at me, “No, I’m excited!”
Soon, April arrived with her sister / maid of honor. As she was getting her last touches of hair and makeup, done in the car, I asked her how she was feeling. She beamed. “I’m good!”
First looks are different for each couple, because each couple has their own unique dynamic and story. For April and Michael, their first look was serene, tender. Their wedding day would be the beginning of their lifelong commitment to be each other’s safe havens amidst any nerves or trials to come their way, to be the first to offer a comforting embrace, and to celebrate and delight in one another.

Long distance. That’s been the name of the game for Michelle and Duy for quite some time now. The two of them met in San Jose, but both of them are now in school in different states, pursuing their medical and PT career dreams. But they always make time for each other, including flying between Colorado to California or driving up and down between LA and the Bay.
I was lucky enough to spend an afternoon with them on a rare weekend together for their engagement session in Cupertino, and it was seriously so heartwarming to see in person how much they loved each other. Duy clearly adores Michelle, and boy can he make her laugh! Thank you guys for hanging out with me for your surprise wedding workout session - I make my couples do a lot of lifting and cardio during their time with me ;)

Joyful, giggly, relaxed, filled with their closest friends and family. Grace and Jeff’s San Francisco city hall wedding was gorgeous and super low key all at once - just like them, and just how they wanted it. Their snuggly at-home engagement session was basically one long double date for us, and even though this was their wedding day, I knew they wanted everyone to just have fun and celebrate!
The entire day was simple and sweet and incredibly personal. Grace’s best friend Jess did her hair and makeup, Jeff made sure he had his own custom touches on his attire, Grace’s brother Joe officiated, and our friend Alex played the ceremony music from their Spotify playlist on his phone. Grace and Jeff exchanged personally written vows, took communion together, had their first PDA as husband and wife (Joe only approved a handshake at first), and it was done! They’re married! Brandon, their mutual friend who introduced them to each other in the first place, had the honor of being the witness on their marriage license.

April and Michael met through their church small group. They bonded over mutual interests, like cooking together and hiking in the many gorgeous parks and trails that the Bay Area offers. So it was only natural that when it came time to propose, Michael popped the question at one of their regular hiking spots, Alum Rock.
For their engagement session, we spent an afternoon at Vasona Park in Los Gatos, another favorite outdoor spot of theirs. They were a little more dressed up than they’d normally be for a hike ;) but that didn’t stop them from skipping and tumbling around the park together. (I tell my couples that a session with me can end up feeling like a workout - in the best way, I promise!) They ended the evening with a sweet slow dance in the open field as the sun went down.

For my first session of 2019, I had the honor of photographing the Ma family in Mountain View. Hana and Hiep requested the Rengstorff House for a very special reason - they got married there 5 years ago! They have a little tradition of going back and taking a photo in front of the house with a sign - keep scrolling for this year’s updated version :) We had a ton of fun playing with their daughter Corinne - she was full of giggles and loved being silly with her parents. She even led them in a sweet dance party ;)
